Short Stretch

Short stretch bandages are the outermost layer of lymphedema bandaging. They may look like the bandages you commonly see in drug stores but they function a lot differently. Short stretch bandages stretch no more than 60% of their original length. This short stretch feature allows the bandage to have high working pressure and low resting pressure. They are commonly made with 100% cotton without any elastic fibers. The drug store style bandages are what is considered long stretch, the long stretch style of bandaging provides too much pressure at rest to be safe for lymphedema treatment.
